The couple was found in Bethel around 11:50 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 31 on Reservoir Street after police responded to a report of yelling coming from the home.
Inside, Bethel Police officers found Traci-Marie Jones, age 52, and Lester Jones, age 58, dead from gunshot wounds.
The medical examiner's office released the identities of both victims, saying Traci-Marie Jones died from head and trunk gunshots and was the victim of a homicide, while Lester Jones died by suicide with a gunshot wound to the head.
Bethel Police said in a news release that the couple was estranged due to domestic abuse.
Traci-Marie Jones had sought a protective order against Lester Jones on Tuesday, Jan. 17. The first report of abuse was reported to Bethel Police on Friday, Jan. 20, when she reported that her husband was threatening her, the department said.
At the time, Lester Jones was staying with family in New York and the department made contact with New York State Police who arrested Lester Jones for violation of a protective order on Jan. 20, Bethel Police said.
Within the last week, Lester Jones moved to Danbury and was staying with family, police said.
On Tuesday, Jan. 31, Lester Jones, entered the home shot and killed Traci-Marie before killing himself, they added.
Police say the investigation is ongoing.
